LILC: Too Hot to Handle? Adult Graphic Novels in the Library

First Session: 9:00AM-10:00AM

Speakers:

  • Brandon Montclare, Comics Writer (Rocket Girl, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight)
  • Amy Reeder, Comics Artist(Rocket Girl, Batwoman)
  • Valerie Acklin, Bellmore Memorial Library
  • Josh Firer, Bellmore Memorial Library

Program Description:

While libraries have embraced youth-oriented graphic novels, adult versions can face an uphill battle due to their depictions of sex, violence, and mature themes.  Worries can range from offending patrons, to negative media coverage, to finding shelving solutions.  We’ll explore the value of the format for adults, how to best serve a wide variety of patrons (while providing unencumbered access), as well as how to prepare for possible challenges.

Sponsored by the NCLA Pop Culture Committee and SCLA Pop Culture Committee
