An Important Message from the Nassau County Library Association

The Nassau County Library Association (NCLA) is deeply saddened and horrified by the injustices experienced by black people due to systemic racism, discrimination, and oppression. No one should be subjected to harm, disenfranchisement, constant fear of, or actual loss of life because of the color of their skin.
A core value of libraries is to support and promote diversity and inclusion. Members of NCLA are committed to doing that work. We will educate ourselves and our communities on how to be an ally — how to start conversations with friends and family. Everyone has the right to be treated with respect and equality, and the right to live without fear. We cannot stand silent while blatant injustices happen daily. We thank the Library Staff of Color Committee for helping our organization to verbalize and present our strong beliefs on this critical issue. If we are silent, we are complicit.

We stand in solidarity with our members, our communities, our families, our friends, and all who speak out against injustice.

Signed,
Nassau County Library Association Executive Board
