Welcome to the NCLA Pop Culture Committee! The NCLA Pop Culture Committee is dedicated to promoting the inclusion of graphic novels, comic books, anime, manga, animation, video games and gaming, science fiction, fantasy, and other pop culture media in libraries.

Purpose of the Pop Culture Committee:

To create programs, workshops, conferences, and other events relevant to librarians, educators, students, and other professionals about collection development, programming, instruction, curriculum development, and other topics related to Comic-Con culture, such as comic books, graphic novels, video games/gaming, anime, manga, animation, science fiction, fantasy, and other pop culture media.

The Committee shall:

  1. Keep the NCLA Executive Board informed, including reporting the findings, recommendations, and activities of the committee to the board.
  2. Meet on a regular basis.
  3. Plan and develop programs assigned to further improve the abilities and educational needs of the membership. This may be in conjunction with institutions of higher learning or other associations.
  4. Plan the content for each program and arrange for speakers, facilities, equipment, refreshments, etc. at programs.
  5. Promote ways librarians in public, school, and academic libraries can meet the needs of library users/patrons through the use of pop culture, including comic books, graphic novels, video games/gaming, anime, manga, animation, science fiction, fantasy, and other pop culture media.
  6. Share ideas with the membership for library programming and collection development related to comic books, graphic novels, video games/gaming, anime, manga, animation, science fiction, fantasy, and other pop culture media.
