Reference & Adult Services Division History

Each year, the Reference & Adult Services Division (RASD) offers several programs of interest to reference and adult services librarians. Programs include lectures by guest speakers who are specialists in their fields, trips to noteworthy libraries and institutions, and an annual author breakfast.

The first RASD President, Donna Rigali, is credited with forming the Division in 1982 by assembling a small group of librarians together in a forum to share knowledge and ideas. In October of that year, the NCLA Executive Board officially recognized the Division. Since that time, RASD has sponsored hundreds of workshops, seminars and field trips, including seminars at the annual Long Island Library Conference. The Division currently has over 350 members, and is the largest Division of NCLA.

Officers of the Division are elected by members-at-large, and meet throughout the year to plan the Division’s activities. Click on the link to the NCLA Calendar on the sidebar of this site to learn about upcoming RASD events.

The Reference and Adult Services Division welcomes input from members. Click on “Contact Us” to reach the Division President, or “Board Members” to reach any of the current RASD Officers. We’d like very much to hear from you!
